Adulting is the act of being a responsible “grown up.” It can be a little different for all of us, but encompasses going to work, paying the bills, raising kids, etc. Often, it forces our personal goals to take a backseat to those primary responsibilities.
Adulting is tough, but adulting with horses is REALLY tough. Why? Well, having enough time and money seem to be the biggest hurdles. You may have more time than money, or more money than time to spend with your horse, but most people don’t have unlimited amounts of either.
I’ve struggled to find good information that pertains to my daily life. A lot of articles or blogs discuss training issues, clothing, and all the wonderful things that require endless amounts of both time and money. These are great places to get good information, but don’t often cater to riders who have limited time, money or both.
. . . So what about the REAL world? I mean those of us that have full time jobs and still barely scrape by to pay board and vet bills. What if you have kids or other family obligations and can’t seem to find time to ride five days a week? What about trainers that get to do what they love but struggle to pay the bills? They push their dreams aside to ride clients’ horses instead of their own. Unfortunately, that is what adults have to do.
I want people to feel like they aren’t alone in their struggles of owning horses and trying to be an adult. My hope is to find solutions and build a community. Adulting with Horses gives adult equestrians ideas, tips, and product suggestions to make it easier to enjoy horses with limited time and on a limited budget!
My name is Alisha, and I am addicted to horses. I am a wife, mother, and former elementary teacher. I taught school for 5 years. I have been a working student, barn manager, instructor, trainer . . .
I come from a family that values hard work. I grew up working off lessons and sharing my first horse with my mom. Horses are expensive and time consuming. As an adult, it can be a struggle to have horses be a part of your life. I hope to build a community and a place for adults to get information and support.
